The AI frontier is a plateau — and one of the four is open
Claude Opus 5, Claude Fable 5, GPT-5.6 and Kimi K3 land within 3.6 points of each other on intelligence while their prices vary by 3.3×. Opus 5 beats Anthropic’s own flagship at half the price, and the open-weight model costs what OpenAI’s mid-tier costs — and scores higher.
